The couple first formed a bond during Season 3 of the series. Bachelor in Paradise in 2016. After an on-and-off relationship, Bass and Waddell became engaged during the finale. They married in 2017 after returning to Mexico to star in season 4 of the ABC series, and welcomed daughter Isabella in 2018 and son Charles “Charlie” Wolf in 2019.
Bass and Waddell announced their split in December 2020. “We have made the difficult decision to part ways,” they said in a statement at the time. “We will always treasure our time together and continue to treat each other with the greatest respect, focusing on what is best for our family’s future. We greatly appreciate everyone’s love and support and ask that you respect our family’s privacy while we go through this.”
Shortly thereafter, Waddell became emotional about how the major life changes had affected her family. “Christmas is over. This is the part I was least looking forward to because Evan came and took the kids and they’re going to be so happy and they’re going to have so much fun, but Charlie has never slept in anyone’s house before. I’m not even worried about him, it’s just hard for me to be away from him,” she said in an emotional YouTube video in December 2020. “It’s so stupid. I just feel lonely, to be honest. … It’s just hard.”
Since he announced his resignation, the Tennessee native has also been candid about the issues surrounding divorce. Bass was previously married to Marie Basswith whom he has sons Nathan, Liam and Ansley.
“I just don’t think we laid the groundwork the way we should have,” Evan explained on the June 2022 episode of the “Talking It Out” podcast, adding that he finds it “shameful” to get divorced twice. . “I’m not beside myself. … Like, it’s still emotional. It’s still a deep sadness, I don’t know if you’ll ever be completely perfect. There are scars and wounds – they heal, but they are also here to teach you and teach me, and I try my best.”
