Work through it. John Mulaney has always chosen honesty when it comes to his struggle with addiction and trying to stay sober.
During his 2012 comedy special New in Town, the former Saturday night life the writer talked about his decision to sober up.
“I stopped drinking because I used to drink too much and then pass out and ‘spoil’ parties, at least that’s what I was told,” he shared at the time. “When you do it enough, when you switch off alcohol and do crazy things, you kind of become Michael Jackson. Like, any story that someone tells about you can be true, and even you will not know until the end.
In 2014, Mulaney revealed that he had been sober since September 2005. However, in December 2020 Big mouth the star voluntarily checked into a rehab center seeking help for alcoholism and cocaine addiction.

The comedian left rehab in February 2021. Us confirmed his divorce from his wife Anna Marie Tendler three months later.
“I am heartbroken that John chose to end our marriage,” Tendler said in a May 2021 statement. “I wish him support and success as he continues his recovery.”

Not long after his breakup hit the headlines, Us confirmed that Mulaney left with Olivia Munn.
During his first interview after leaving rehab, Mulaney thanked his friend. Seth Meyers for organizing the intervention and encouraging him to seek treatment.
“I’m so grateful to you and everyone here for saving my life.” Mulaney told Meyers during a speech on Late Night with Seth Meyers in September 2021.
The Chicago native also revealed that he was expecting his first child with Mann and reflected on his future, adding: “You guys saved me from drugs, and Olivia and this baby helped me save myself from myself.”
Us in December 2021, it was confirmed that the couple had a son, Malcolm, adding that Mann “gave birth just before Thanksgiving.”
