Just because April rains bring May flowers doesn’t mean you’ll have to stare out a rainy window all month long. Unless, of course, you are doing this in the spring; and then, by all means, go for it.
Rainy window lovers aside (imagine!), April is for real crowded with fun activities, holidays and spring activities. The weather is getting warmer, the days are getting longer, and most people are itching to do something. So, here are some fun spring activities ideas that you can add to your calendar for the month of April.
Visiting Jazz Shows and Festivals
Did you know that April sees some of best jazz shows the whole year? This is because it is JAM, or jazz recognition month. Many beloved jazz musicians such as Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock and Ella Fitzgerald celebrate their birthdays in April. So it’s time to turn on your favorite jazz playlist or dust off your favorite record.
It’s also the perfect time to go out and watch a live show! There will most likely be many jazz concerts in the venues closest to you throughout the month. Musicians, both old and new, will be giving their best during this month. It’s also a great time to pick up an instrument and feel the rhythm yourself! You may be surprised how rewarding and enjoyable playing even a few simple notes can be.
Can’t find musicians putting on shows or offering lessons in your city? Just head to New Orleans, one of the country’s most jazzy cities. You will find people moving to music so pervasive and contagious that the buildings themselves seem to sing.
Read Poetry
Just like jazz, poetry is an art form that allows you to express yourself by playing with its structure. It’s fitting that apart from jazz, April is also National Poetry Month. Poets and artists around the world tend to publish their new work around this time.
You can search poetry readings and autograph books at your local bookstores. Most likely, they have already planned events for a month. And if not, you can host your own poetry party with your friends! Get together and read your favorite passages from your favorite poets. Or, if you so desire, flex your own poetic muscles and see what words pour out of your own muse.
If you have never dived into the world of poetry, there has never been a better time than April. You will most likely find many different workshops, both online and in person. If you try, you will find that poetry can provide some solace from an ever-looming calamity. anxiety peace.
Celebrate International Children’s Book Day – April 2nd and Beyond
Poetry readings are not the only kind celebrated in April. This is because April also marks International Children’s Book Day, which falls on the second of the month. If you need an excuse to find time to read with your kids, look no further.
Don’t know what to read? You can always find childhood classics like The Frog and the Toad, Goodnight Moon, or The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Or open your shelves with new stories like Circles Around Us, Busy Betty or Just Try One Bite. And since April 2 is Children’s Book Day, there are many new children’s books released in April. You’ll probably even find live readings you can bring your kids to at your local bookstore or library.
There are more children’s books these days than ever before. If there is a certain message or world that you want to share with your children, it might be there. Reading with your kids can really kick-start their cognitive development. And anyway, it’s a great nighttime tradition that you can look back on fondly later in life.
Do a scavenger hunt, an egg hunt or a room escape
One of the greatest spring joys of childhood is to search your world for brightly colored eggs with treasures hidden inside. And this is one that you can recreate for your kids quite easily. Even if you’re not religious, Easter weekend is a great time to go on an egg hunt. This is a fun springtime activity that you can also invite your kids’ friends to add to their memories.
And don’t worry if you don’t have kids, religiosity, or a penchant for neon ovals. You can still do the good old scavenger hunt. All it takes for a scavenger hunt is a good spot, a prize, and a clever pun. Gather your best friends, split them into teams and see who can solve your great mystery.
And, if you’re not in the mood to build a complex Rube Goldberg clue machine, don’t worry. You and your friends can try your hand at the quest room. Quest rooms are places that are dedicated to creating challenging, addictive and fun puzzles. It’s a fun way to spend the day, especially in good company.
Laugh during National Humor Month
When was the last time you laughed so hard that you cried? Is it really that long? It’s no secret that winters can be quite dreary, especially in the final months of January to March. Cold, wet and dark days can really take a toll on your mind after a while. The world can seem pretty bleak after all this darkness, so why not brighten things up a bit?
As they say, laughter is the best medicine. Then it’s good that April is National Humor Month! Within a month, many comedy clubs will be filled with shows. There will be a lot of funny people and, admittedly, not very funny people, testing their wit on stage. Going to a comedy show is a great excuse to get out of the house and laugh.
And, if you’ve been working on your own routine for a while now, it might be time for your debut. You never know how good your stuff is until you get on stage and find out. Besides, even if you bomb, you will not be alone. And the only way to get better is to try, fail, and try again. April could be your time to shine.
Volunteer for Earth Day – April 22
By the end of April, spring will be in full swing. Trees and flowers, newly blossomed buds and bulbs, will bloom with fragrances and colors. Lovely birds and whimsical insects will flutter in a whirlwind of sounds and life. And you will also hear the harsh, phlegmatic exclamations of many allergy sufferers wishing that Earth Day was already over.
As beautiful as spring can be, it is also gentle. And as the years go by, protecting and healing climate change becomes more important. So if you’ve been looking for the time to pay tribute to the planet, April 22nd is your day. His Earth Dayand volunteers around the world will clean up.
With a little digging on the Internet, you will probably find groups organized in your town or city. And, even if you can’t find a group project, you can make your own. Volunteering on Earth Day is as easy as picking up trash on the side of the road. So invite your friends to put on gloves and collect the remnants of humanity. Birds will thank you with their song.
Throw a Party
As social creatures, people love to share their entertainment with each other. So you can take any of these ideas and throw a party out of it!
Are there other friends who are parents with children? Get together and have a scavenger night with a book to calm down. Love jazz but can’t find live performances nearby? Invite people to stream a live event or host an audition party of your own project.
Almost every spring activity that you can enjoy alone, you can enjoy together. April 3rd is World Party Day. There is no better occasion to gather people and celebrate something.
