Israel says it is striking targets on Syrian territory after three rockets were fired at it from Syria on Saturday.

One of the rockets fell in the south of the Golan Heights, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said. According to a post on the IDF website, they did not need to intercept the missiles. Twitter.

“In response to missiles fired from Syria at Israel earlier today, IDF artillery is currently attacking Syrian territory,” the Israel Defense Forces said in a tweet on its Twitter account Saturday night local time.

The rocket launches came as tensions escalated in the region following Israeli police raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel launched strikes against Palestinian militant targets in southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip early Friday morning after dozens of rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory.

The IDF killed a 20-year-old Palestinian in the occupied West Bank town of Azzun on Saturday evening, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

According to the ministry, a man named Ayed Azam Salim was shot dead with live Israeli bullets in the stomach and chest in the Qalqilya region.

“Following routine actions, several suspects threw an explosive device at IDF soldiers in the city of Azzun,” the IDF said in a statement. The soldiers responded with “live rounds in their direction” and one person was wounded, the statement said. According to the statement, the IDF soldiers were not injured.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, Salim was taken to a hospital in Qalqilya, where he died.

On Friday, one person died and seven were injured in a car crash in Tel Aviv. Police said the car was driven by a 45-year-old resident of Kfar Qasem, a predominantly Arab city east of Tel Aviv.

The victim, an Italian tourist, was identified by Israeli and Italian authorities as Alessandro Parini. Italian media reported that he was a 35-year-old lawyer. The Israeli authorities described the incident as a “terrorist attack”.
