The Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the accident and has the snow plow in its possession.

Rainer spoke to emergency services just before 10 a.m. local time before being airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Rainer’s family was visiting for New Year’s celebrations, but the high-altitude hamlet near Mount Rose, Nevada, where he lives, was buried under five feet of snow. Residents were without power and water for two days when the accident occurred on New Year’s Day.

Rainer — who has his own fire trucks, plows and other heavy machinery — brought out a snowcat on the morning of January 1 to help clear some of the snow.

‘He had some family here. His nephew was with him. A source who has known Rainer for many years told dailymail.com: ‘He closed the mountain because everyone skied.

‘He was just plowing the road to go snow skiing. He passed out and then the machine took off. The machine jumped out of gear. And then he did something to try to get into it and he got caught and he ran over it.

He has suffered a lot of injuries but he is fine now. He’s speaking and all, though he has some recovery to make. They put a pin in his leg,’ said the source.

Two neighbors said he was operated on at Renown Regional Medical Center, known as the best hospital in northern Nevada with top orthopedic specialists.

The source said conditions peaked this weekend at their $3.25 million home off Mount Rose Highway near downtown Reno.

‘two days ago [the snow] was five feet deep, its workers had to go inside,’ he said. ‘They haven’t had electricity since 4 pm on Saturday.’

tmz previously reported that the safety features of Rainer’s snowcat failed and caused it to roll onto Rainer’s foot, about a mile from his home. The machine was produced by the German manufacturer Kaasbohrer.
