God Save the King? How King Charles III preparing for his coronation, the monarch is facing backlash for a variety of reasons, many tied to his special day.
Charles, 74, came to the throne in September 2022 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. The late monarch and longest-reigning ruler in British history was 96 years old when she passed away.
While the Queen’s eldest son has already begun to oversee the UK and the Commonwealth, his official coronation will take place on Saturday 6 May. The ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey and the king will later take his seat on the balcony of Buckingham Palace next to his family to mark the start of his reign.
The following day, there will be a coronation concert and a coronation grand dinner, which consists of communities sharing a meal “in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship,” according to Buckingham Palace.
The country will end the weekend with a public holiday on Monday, May 8. The day will also be known as Big Help, highlighting volunteer work across the UK organized by the Together coalition.
Although the event is intended to be an event of unity and honor, Charles’s family drama overshadowed the coronation. After Prince Harrybook release earlier this year, the royals feuded with 38-year-old Harry and his wife, Meghan Marklefor their scathing accusations about how the Firm has treated them in the past.
Despite what Harry claimed in his memoirs, Sparethat his father’s team planted stories about him and his brother, Prince Williamin 2019, in order to get “good press for Pa”, Charles tries to sidestep their problems.
‘King Charles is a monarch, but he is also a father’ – royal expert Angela Levin exclusively told Us weekly in February. “He loves Harry. He may not like what he does, but he loves it and has a soft spot for it. He doesn’t want to lose him as a son.”
Harry, for his part, said in January that he would not rule out returning to the UK to honor the King. “A lot can happen now and then,” BetterUp’s CIO told ITV. But, you know, the door is always open. The ball is on their side. There’s a lot to discuss and I really hope they’re willing to sit down and talk about it.”
A former military pilot must make an important decision regarding his presence at the coronation. According to the royal expert Alexander LarmanHarry will permanently alienate his loved ones if he refuses a historic event.
“If he (does not) go to the coronation, he is essentially saying, ‘I will never have any relationship with my family again,’” the journalist said. Us in March, commenting that he would have been “surprised” if Harry hadn’t appeared in the middle of the rift.
However, Harry’s relationship with his family is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the controversy surrounding Charles’s coronation.
