King Charles III’s Coronation: See Every Royal’s Outfit 

Splendor and grandeur. Coronation King Charles III almost on Us — and promises a number of great fashion statements.

While the 73-year-old monarch, who took his place as sovereign after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, will showcase pomposity and circumstance with a few historic robes and a splendid crown on Saturday, May. 6, other members of the royal family are expected to draw attention with their majestic style.

The official event takes place in Westminster Abbey in London under the leadership of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Coronation Service will be the highlight of the first day of Coronation Weekend. Charles and his wife Queen consort Camilla, will arrive at Westminster Abbey from Buckingham Palace in the so-called “Royal Procession”. Camilla, who also assumed her new royal title following Her Majesty’s death, will also be crowned on Saturday.

The following day, there will be a coronation concert and a coronation grand dinner, which consists of communities sharing a meal “in a nationwide act of celebration and friendship,” according to Buckingham Palace.

Before the big weekend, Charles repeatedly expressed his commitment to the throne.

“I… solemnly pledge, during the remainder of the time God grants me, to uphold the constitutional principles that underlie our nation,” the monarch shared in his first speech as king in September 2022. “And wherever you live in the United Kingdom, or in kingdoms and territories around the world, and whatever your background or beliefs, I will try to serve you with loyalty, respect and love, as I have throughout my life.”

He added: “Of course my life will change when I take on my new responsibilities. I will no longer be able to devote so much time and energy to philanthropy and issues that concern me so deeply. But I know that this important work will continue in the good hands of others.”

However, Charles’s landmark celebration was not without controversy. The long-awaited event was overshadowed by drama within the royal family, especially tensions between Charles and his son. Prince Harry.

Nerves ran high after the 38-year-old prince published his memoirs. Sparein January, detailing his alleged hardships at the hands of the Firm and several relatives, including his brother Prince William — whom Harry accused of physically assaulting him because of his marriage to Meghan Markle in May 2018. Naturally, many wondered if Harry and Meghan would be invited to their father’s coronation.

On April 12, Buckingham Palace confirmed that Harry would be in attendance and Meghan would remain in California to be with her children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. (Archie turns four on Saturday and Harry is expected to leave London shortly after his coronation to celebrate his son’s birthday.)
