I was browsing Instagram recently and a video caught my attention: a guy asked his viewers, “If you don’t want to send DMs, are you really sure you want to start a business?”
Turned out to be Tanner Chidester. As the founder of Elite CEOs—among other companies—Tanner has earned over $60 million in the online coaching world.
But as the college athlete turned entrepreneur, his path to success hasn’t always been an easy one.
So if you’re struggling with your business, sometimes the answer may not be the latest tool or someone to hold your hand and tell you things will get better. Sometimes you just need a wake up call.
Tanner is here to deliver it to you.
I sat down to interview him for this week’s edition of the Launch Your Business podcast, where he shares:
- The Hard Truths You Need to Know as an Entrepreneur
- Unexpected traits you need to be sustainable as a business owner
- How to avoid “miserable success”

Tanner shares the benefits of mentoring
“Had I paid for the help sooner, I would have probably made another $20 million and probably saved myself a lot of struggle and heartache.
Tanner recalled how he struggled in the first few years of his business and how it shaped his views on mentoring.
“Two years may not seem like a big deal, but when you work 16-18 hour days, live in shit, you have a terrible car, and the girls laugh at you, it doesn’t seem like it is. big deal. It’s like the end of the world. And so I almost quit five times.
Luckily, his mentor not only encouraged him not to give up, but also provided him with the actions, tools, and mindset he needed to succeed.
The only tactic that caused his income to explode
“People forget that I was doing door-to-door sales for eight months, six days a week, 12 hours a day.”
Tanner describes it as one of the worst experiences of his life. That’s why he was so excited about the idea of using social media direct messaging to grow his own business.
“When I was able to start selling just by using my phone, it wasn’t fun, but I was making 10 times more just sitting on the couch. Before I sweated all day, I rubbed my feet and even pulled on my weapons. to me.”
This experience contributed to his confusion as to why other people were unwilling to take a similar approach; just exchange messages with potential customers and promote your offer.
“There are so many other things that you could do and make a lot less money, which is a lot harder in terms of work and effort.”
Tanner clearly wants to win, but he wants you to, too.
I often say that perfection is the enemy of progress. Tanner shared his views on how procrastination can lead to failure.
“You have to move quickly, because if you don’t, you will extend this period to success. Every day you go through this, you increase the chances that you’re going to quit.”
He goes on and shares his motivation to help entrepreneurs.
“Maybe that’s why I’m so caught up in the fact that people don’t get it. And they think that by not taking action, they have nothing to lose. But you are missing something, you just don’t know what it is. meet your Creator.”
Tanner concludes with a simple but valid mission statement.
“I just want people to win. I know what it’s like to lose, so I just want people to win.”
