Fatal novel. King Charles III And Queen consort Camilla endured a very public scandal before becoming the official royal couple.
Charles was under scrutiny as heir to his mother Queen Elizabeth II when he met Camilla (née Shand) in 1970. The couple dated before the prince was in the Royal Navy. When he returned home, she was engaged to Andrew Parker Bowles.
Camilla married Parker Bowles in 1973 and they had two children: a son Volume in 1974 and daughter Laura in 1978.
When Camilla left, Charles followed suit, tying the knot with Princess Diana in 1981. Their sons, Prince William And Prince Harryarrived in 1982 and 1984 respectively.
Charles and Camilla eventually began dating while still married to Diana and Parker Bowles respectively. After the divorce, they went public with their relationship, although it was years before the romance received royal approval.
“It was terrible. It was a very unpleasant time, and I would not want my worst enemy to go through it, ”said Camilla. daily mail in May 2017. “I wouldn’t have survived without my family.”
The couple tied the knot in 2005 and she took on the role of a working member of the royal family.
Charles and Camilla rarely lash out at each other in public, but they’re not without their moments of affection. “You can imagine it’s a real, real challenge,” he told CNN in 2015 of her work as a member of the royal family. “But I think she did a brilliant job with those things.”
Despite the pressure that comes with their position in the institution, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall know how to keep it light. “It’s always wonderful to have someone who you think understands and wants to inspire,” he explained. “Although she certainly jokes if I take things too seriously. And it all helps.”
In February 2022, seven months before her death, Queen Elizabeth announced that Camilla would be crowned queen consort when Charles ascended the throne.
“When my son Charles becomes king at the right time, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support you have given me,” the then monarch shared in a statement. “And I sincerely wish that when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her faithful service.”
Following the Queen’s death in September 2022, both Charles and Camilla assumed their new titles.
