Prince Harry has confirmed he and Meghan announced the duchess’s first pregnancy at Princess Eugenie’s wedding – before revealing how he helped her give birth to their daughter, Lilibet.
In his explosive new biography Spare, Prince Harry revealed that he and his wife broke the good news to the Prince and Princess of Wales during a cocktail party after the reception in October 2018.
It’s one of many glimpses into Meghan and Harry’s life, as well as Archie and Lilibet’s early days, detailed in her bombshell memoir Spare – which was accidentally released in Spain yesterday.
Giving details of Meghan’s pregnancy with their first child, Archie, now three, Harry said they felt obliged to tell their family the news in person before they leave on their tour of Australia in late 2018.

He chose his cousin Eugenie’s Windsor wedding to make the announcement as wider members of the royal family will be in attendance.
Before a drinks reception, the couple stopped by Charles at his Windsor office and Harry said he was overjoyed to see his father’s ‘broad smile’ after learning he would be a grandfather for the fourth time.
Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex then went to St George’s Hall where a drinks reception was being held to announce Prince William.
He echoed his father’s sentiment and urged him to tell Kate immediately. The Princess of Wales was talking across the room to her sister, Pippa Middleton, who was expecting her son, Arthur, at the time.

Describing Kate’s reaction, Harry wrote: ‘She too gave a big smile and a warm congratulation. They both responded exactly as I expected – as I wanted.’
Although the couple didn’t make the news public until days later, Princess Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson was said to be ‘furious’ that the couple had ‘let down’ the bride.
In their book Royals at War, investigative journalists Dylan Howard and Andy Tillett wrote: ‘It was a huge social blunder, even if you’re not a royal – stealing the limelight from Eugenie, who was furious, as was her mother Sarah Was.’
Later in the book, Prince Harry opens up about the birth of his one-year-old daughter, Lilibet Diana, and how it compared with Archie’s delivery in 2019.
During the Duchess’s first labour, Prince Harry described how the pair’s bodyguards bought Nando’s takeaway at the hospital. He also remembers using laughing gas to calm his nerves.

In contrast, they say the pair felt ‘safe and calm’ two years later delivering Lilibet.
She wrote: ‘When the doctor said it was a question of minutes, I told Meg that the first thing I wanted was for the little one to see my face. We knew it would be a girl. She agreed and pressed my hand.
After seeing everything with the doctor, Harry explains how he helped bring his daughter into the world.
He then handed her over to Meghan – who later told him she had ‘never felt more in love with him than in that moment’ – so she could be skin-to-skin with her daughter.
The couple announced the birth of their daughter in June 2016 and named her Lilibet Diana in honor of Harry’s late mother and grandmother.
What’s more, Prince Harry writes in extraordinary detail how Meghan and the Princess of Wales were both left in tears during the infamous bridesmaid dress row, as well as detailing a disagreement over a shared lip gloss — and how Kate Meghan Hurt by comments on her ‘baby brain’ when she was pregnant.
The Duke also describes how their first home with Meghan, Nottingham Cottage, was a far cry from the grandeur of William and Kate’s Kensington Palace apartments.
In June 2018, Prince Harry claims he visited his brother and sister’s London home with Meghan Markle to clear the air after a series of disagreements.
