The full details of Prince Harry’s ‘tiara-gate’ feud with one of the Queen’s closest advisers have been revealed in her memoir.

In the book, Spare, he denies he angrily told his grandmother’s dresser, Angela Kelly, ‘What Meghan wants, Meghan gets’ in a conflict over the crown the Queen gave Meghan for her wedding to Harry .

He says that her mother’s sisters had previously offered one of the Princess of Wales’s tiaras to Meghan.

Meghan was ‘touched’ and spent ‘hours and hours’ with her wedding dress designer to get the scalloped edges of her veil to match the Spencer tiara.

The dazzling crown Meghan wore at her wedding was Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau, which was loaned to her by Harry’s grandmother the Queen from the Royal Collection.

Princess Diana loved the tiara, as much as it did on their wedding day, and Harry has revealed that he was originally destined to wear the Spencer tiara as a tribute to her.

But shortly before the wedding in May 2018, Harry says the Queen ‘reached out’ to the couple, offering Meghan access to his collection of tiaras.

Harry says: ‘She even invited us to Buckingham Palace to try them on. “Don’t come”, I remember him saying.

What unfolded, says Harry, was ‘an extraordinary morning’.

They are shown his grandmother’s private dressing room, next to her bedroom – a place Harry has never been to before.

The Queen stood beside a jeweler who knew the history of each stone in the royal collection.

Also in the room was Ms Kelly – a Liverpool doctor’s daughter who had become indispensable to the monarch as his personal dresser and confidant, but who was known to the courtiers as ‘AK-47’ because of her forceful personality. Was.

Harry says the Queen asked Meghan to see five stunning tiaras, one with an emerald and another with aquamarine.

Then the Queen told Megan: ‘The tiaras suit you.’

After Meghan chose one, the Queen advised her to try it on with her hairdresser ahead of the wedding day.

But Harry says when he tried to contact Ms Kelly later to grab the tiara for a practice session, the dresser didn’t respond.

The Queen's dresser Angela Kelly (pictured at the Queen's funeral), known to some as 'AK-47', reportedly did not respond to messages from Harry about Meghan's chosen crown.

When she finally found him, Ms Kelly asked him to take her out of the palace to an appointment with Meghan’s hairdresser, saying ‘could not be done’ as an orderly and a police officer would be needed to guard it.

Harry – who admits to being elated – says Ms Kelly eventually ‘came out of thin air’ at Kensington Palace to sign a release form before handing him the tiara.

He writes: ‘She fixed me with a look that made me tremble. I could read a clear warning on his face. It is not over.’

Instead, Markle wore Queen Mary’s Diamond Bandeau, the centerpiece of which is a 10-diamond brooch that Mary of Teck received as a wedding gift from the County of Lincoln in 1893.

The tiara saga was one of the many difficulties Meghan is said to have faced while trying to design her wedding dress.

Harry claims that ‘there was a heated argument in the back corridors of the Palace about whether Meghan could wear a veil’.

Wearing a burqa for a divorcee, they say, was out of the question for some courtiers.

But Harry goes on to say that ‘the powers that be have, unexpectedly, shown some resilience’ and relented.

His telling of the story of the Tiara-Gate shows the extent of the power wielded by the Queen’s Dresser.

Ms Kelly first came to the royal household as an assistant dresser, but worked her way up and was handed the keys to the Queen’s priceless jewelery collection.

He served Queen Elizabeth II for nearly 30 years and was pictured at her state funeral on 19 September.

The Queen is said to have given Ms Kelly a royal provision to allow her to live in the house for the rest of her life, even after she has passed away.

The pair were known to exchange light-hearted banter with each other, with the Queen once telling her dresser ‘you’re sacked’ during a trip to Australia.

His enormous influence is said to confer considerable power over other senior staff and junior members of the household.

It was previously reported that the ‘tiara-gate’ controversy involved another tiara that Meghan was not given the option of choosing – but this latest statement from Prince Harry calls this into question.

There were also reports that the row included the same tiara that Princess Eugenie wore at her wedding ceremony in 2018, which featured a stunning array of sapphires.

The Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara was handed down to the Queen following the death of the Queen Mother in 2002.

She was so supported by Monarch that even Ms. Kelly was given extraordinary permission to secure a three-book deal.

Two volumes have been published and the second is ready for release.

The Spencer tiara, which Meghan is claimed to have originally planned to wear, was worn by Princess Diana at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, and on several occasions after her big day.

The tiara is a family heirloom that was worn by all of Diana’s sisters on their wedding days.

The headpiece, which was made by Garrades in the 1930s, features an elaborate design of stylized flowers decorated with diamonds in a silver setting.

The crown is now owned by Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer.

It is understood that Miss Kelly was not consulted by Harry’s publishers about the episode in her memoir.

He could not be reached for comment today and Buckingham Palace declined to comment.
